The Kings Life – A Guest Story by Bailey

I’m very proud of my children, but nothing makes me happier than the fact that my 11 year-old is really beginning to explore his creative side. He’s making strides in art, but he’s also started writing recently. He finished his first fantasy story, The King’s Life the other day (after much debating on adding the 2nd “chapter”).

I’m proud of his creativity and the fact that he was able to see the story through to The End. With Bailey’s permission (and agonized happiness/trepidation), I’m posting it here, in its entirety, unedited and unadorned. Undoubtedly, you’ll see similarities to other works, as well as the homage to Conlan, from Tears and Pain (Hi, Thorne!). However, for the first story ever written by my 11 y/0, I am immensely proud – I don’t have the words to tell you how happy I am. Also, I know he would LOVE to hear your encouraging comments, so feel free!

The kings life

Chapter 1 the kings challenge

There once was a king he was the greatest warrior in his kingdom his name was Conlan. No one would face him until the evil knight rode in to his kingdom of Ferust and challenged the king, Conlan accepted. But he did know the there was a wizard holding a spell on the knights armor he could not be hurt. They fought and fought, the knight fell and then the knight got his feet the king stepped on his sword and the evil knight said I will be back one day Conlan. The king found out that the knight had a spell on his armor. The king said I’ll be back if I don’t come back in 20 days, my son will be king. So he set off on an adventure to find the knight and wizard. So he made a map he will go through the goblin wood’s the giant hills the dragons lair the wizard tower and finally the kingdom of dark knight.

Chapter 2 The side-trap

As Conlan left Ferust, he thought to himself ‘ok I’m going to the goblin woods, why not take this short-cut?’ then he went from the road and went north-east instead of north. Then he went through the woods, and found that there was no way out. So as he went on he try every direction, every passage and every little path he could find. And he came across a river and it was getting dark and he was very tired, hungry and thirsty. So he set up camp and soon he had a fire and dinner and a little bit of water. So he went to sleep in his tent and heard all kinds of noises, wolfs, birds, crickets and too much to say. At the first crack of dawn he took his camp down and started his journey again. But this time it was lighter and he had very keen eyesight. So as he went down the passes he became more comfortable with the woods. But a few more miles after camp he saw a troll and some orcs setting up some kind of trap. So he tried to look what it was but as soon as he stepped where he saw them a boulder went flying by his head. He drew his sword and then went on towards the other side of the woods, and saw that he was in the lair of the orcs. They were cutting down trees and taking animals to eat them. As soon as Conlan saw this he came into the open with his shining sword. And thought to himself what can I do against an army of orc? So he stood there for a minute and thought and then he snuck in and he saw that they were making an army of orcs. As he snuck around a bit more he saw the high orc he was the troll he saw in the road. So Conlan leaped out of the bushes and yelled at the orcs, I do not fear you go back to your home land before you get slaughtered! They laughed at him then they charged not knowing anything about the king. And down they all came Conlan the mighty was what the orcs called him afterwards and the word spread all the way through the city. And then the troll whose name was hornga challenged him to a duel to the death. And they started the fight Conlan with his sword vs. hornga and his boulders. What hornga did not know was Conlans speed. Conlan could dodge all the boulders he threw, and yet he could not dodge his sword fast enough. So as Conlan swung one more time he slayed the beast. And then the orcs showed him the way through the forest. And off he went to goblin woods.

Chapter 3, the goblin wood’s

So Conlan went off to the goblin woods and entered no goblin’s he said to himself. Then he was AMBUSHED by the goblins. The archers shot Conlans horse and she fell, Conlan fell off his horse. She got up and galloped away. Conlan got up and killed 2 of the goblin warrior’s, an archer shot an arrow at Conlan and he blocked it with his sword. The sun was setting and Conlan still was fighting goblins and then from nowhere havgack the goblin bigboss came out of the shadows. Charged at Conlan, Conlan blocked the sword and they dueled for 2 straight hours. Then Conlan grabbed havgack’s hand and twisted it till he let go of his sword then havgack begged for mercy and Conlan let him live so he went onward on his journey.

Chapter 4 twilight forest

Almost at the giant hill’s. Conlan slept for the night in twilight forest where it is always twilight. Then he heard a horn through the trees. He saw a man with a sword then another. They kept coming and finally they got to him. Conlan thought there were about 100 warriors and 50 archers. The twilight army commander, Roucher. He said this is the twilight army. Conlan said I am, and then Roucher stopped him and said Conlan the king of Ferust I know. Conlan said will you join me on my attack on the dark knight kingdom? Roucher said we would be glad to take this to call us. as Conlan unwrapped it and its cloth and it was a horn. Roucher said it’s called the twilight horn call it when you need us.

Chapter 5 giant hill’s

Conlan had reached giant hills. Where ever he looked giant hills were there. He heard stomping from the tallest hill. Then he saw a giant coming towards him. With a giant wooden club held tightly in his hand. When he got to Conlan with not a word he swung his club. Conlan ducked and pulled out his sword. He jumped at the giant’s foot with his sword he climbed up the giant’s leg up and up. When he got up to his knee the giant said puny human my name is Forloth. Conlan said my name is Conlan king of ferust. Forloth swung he swung his club and hit himself in the knee. He broke his knee and fell to the ground. Conlan said that would let him live only if he never attacked a human again he agreed.

Chapter 6 the dragons lair

As Conlan reached the dragons lair Forloth the giant came up behind him and said the giants want to help you against the kingdom of dark knight. Here take this horn to call us when its time it’s called the giant horn. Conlan accepted the offer and as forloth left the dragon flew over Conlan. As the dragon flew back over Conlan he got lower and Conlan leaped on the tail of the dragon. As Conlan climbed up to the dragons head with a sword in his hand. As the dragon landed Conlan pulled a rope out of his pouch walked down the dragon’s snout and raped the rope around its mouth. And tied the best that knot knew how. He pulled as hard as he possibly could! He took the last of the rope and tried to steer the dragon in air. As the dragon tried to throw him off Conlan held on as tight as he could. And when he finally got control over the dragon he flew off to the wizard’s tower.

Chapter 7 the wizard’s tower

As Conlan and the dragon got to the wizards tower they see wizard guards at the front gate. Conlan jumped off the dragon behind the gate and the dragon killed the wizards. Conlan will have to fight through all the wizards to get to the top. The first wizards had swords Conlan had more power than them so he killed them easily. And the 2nd floor he got by easily. But 3^rd floor was harder as he fought them. He felt like he got stronger and his sword would start glowing every time he killed one of them. And when he finally got to the 5^th floor. The evil wizard Setuth was standing there waiting on him. Setuth said those wizards you killed were not evil just under my mind control. Angered Conlan swung at the wizard and he missed and swung a few more times they all missed. As he calmed himself down. Setuth blasted him with a wave of fire. As Conlan got up his sword was glowing blue and was somehow pulling water out of its self. The power of the wizards he killed is in the sword he thought. He slashed as if he was trying to kill someone and a wave of water came out. And when Setuth got up he hit the ground with his staff and vines came up and grabbed Conlan and hit him against the walls. Conlan cut them all in half with his sword and then as Setuth turned his back Conlan ran up and ran his sword right threw the wizards back and pulled it out. The power of Setuths magic is in Conlans sword. As the other wizards gained power over themselves they thanked Conlan and asked if they could help against the kingdom of dark knight. Here take this horn it is called the wizardry horn. Conlan accepted.

Chapter 8 the kingdom of dark knight

As Conlan and his dragon reached the kingdom of dark knight. Conlan blew the twilight horn, the giant horn and the wizardry horn. As the twilight forest the giant hills and the wizard tower heard the horns they knew it was time. Roucher and his army, Forloth and his army, The wizard army. All came to fight at Conlans side. As they prepared for the fight Conlan said no matter what happened here today people will remember you as the people who fought against the Dark Knight army. As the gates opened out charged the dark knights and leading them is there king Fylon. The warriors charge out from both sides. And then Conlans giants came right behind the warriors. Conlan tackled Fylon off his horse and the dual of the century began. As Conlan hears the sound of a THUMP a giant got took down. Warriors are dying giants are dying wizards and archers are dying. but the 3 most strongest fighters are roucher forloth and the new wizard leader Nefut. Conlan kept fighting Fylon as the magic in Conlans sword came out it was glowing white. And he hit the ground and as the ground cracked open and light came shining out of the ground. As it burns Fylon. Conlan stabbed Fylon and as Fylon died he said you have slain me you are the best warrior I have ever seen. And as the other dark knights retreated. the last of the giants and twilight army cheered for Conlan. Roucher Forloth and Nefut bowed in front of Conlan. Conlan said to roucher you are now my army commander. And to forloth you’re the heavy infantry commander. And Nefut you’re my wizardry trainer. And as all returned home 19 days past but Conlan made it back alive and still king and all of ferust cheered. All turned back to normal.
